The city hasn’t been affected yet by high gas prices
The Trump Plaza in Atlantic City gives credits for a gas card to its clients as an extra incentive for them to continue visiting the city, despite gas prices. Many other casinos are concerned that they may start losing clients if prices keep on climbing. The truth is that, at least for the moment, their business hasn’t been affected.
The fears of casino owners are based on the fact that almost 78% of Atlantic City’s visitors arrive by car and a 20% by bus. High gas prices could make the city especially vulnerable.
Steve Calabro, Vice President of Marketing at Trump Plaza, said that he hadn’t seen any downturn at all related to the gas price situation. Gary Loveman, chairman of Harrah's Entertainment Inc., agreed with Calabro: “As gas has gone from less than $2 a gallon to nearly or slightly more than $3 a gallon, we haven't seen any effects of that increase on activity levels.”
“If you're a Philadelphian and you're driving into Atlantic City, the incremental cost of your gasoline consumption is going to be a few dollars against a (total) budget of substantially more”, Loveman added.
