The gambling facility is being supported by Hamilton County Sheriff
The project to build a casino in the city of Cincinnati is being backed by Simon Leis, Hamilton County Sheriff. The casino would be located downtown, if it obtains enough votes to be approved.
David Pepper, candidate for county commissioner and casino supporter, declared in a press release that Leis will publicly express his support for the project at a news conference. His condition for backing the idea is that jail space is paid by county revenues from the casino.
Opinions are clearly divided. While Todd Portune, Democratic Commissioner, supports the plan, the Republicans Pat Dewine and Phil Heimlich are against it.
A proposal to open a casino opposite Hamilton County Justice Center, at Broadway Commons, is still waiting to be approved by the state.
