The owner of the casino will file an objection to the vote
This week, the majority of full- and part-time casino employees who work for Atlantic City’s Caesar’s Palace voted to become part of the United Auto Workers Union. Workers at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino will also hold a certification election this month to decide whether they will join the Union or not.
“Atlantic City is a real union town, but the one huge group of workers who were not unionized were the dealers,” Elizabeth Bunn, secretary-treasurer of the national UAW, explained. “The movement is excited about changing that, about bringing dealers in.”
In February, the union obtained governmental approval to hold an election. According to union policy, at least 60% of workers must sign cards indicating their support for a union for a petition to be submitted to the National Labor Relations Board.
Harrah’s Entertainment, which owns the Caesar’s Palace, announced that the company would file an objection to the vote with the National Labor Relations Board.
